A Parliamentary Privilege

In March of this year all the hard work that Caskieberran Primary School has put in to their enterprise learning has been rewarded by a visit to the Scottish Parliament.

The 10 representatives of the company known as “Caskie Jewellers” and support staff were the guest of Claire Baker MSP, the Labour Party’s Deputy Spokesperson on Higher Education. Joining representatives from 5 High Schools in Fife the young students were formally greeted by Claire Baker and the Labour Leader Iain Gray. They both commended the work of the schools and their enterprising approach to business as well as the support of businesses, including the Lomond Group.

After experiencing the hospitality laid on by Holyrood the students then set about explaining to politicians the origins of their business, the product choice and the sales and marketing strategy which they employed whilst having their products on display. Having borrowed money from the Lomond Group and using readily available funds the company have produced and sold enough jewellery to pay back their loan (including interest) within 2 weeks and bolster school funds.

Many politicians and the business community remain impressed, with the solid and meaningful partnership which has been forged between the Lomond Group and Caskieberran Primary School. The work continues in developing the partnership, with a further programme of enterprise experiences planned for the forthcoming months.

Both the Lomond Group and Caskieberran primary School staff and pupils would wish to extend their thanks the Claire Baker MSP for her support over the last few months. Her involvement has inspired them all.
